Hi Tom, i too had a close association with a bi polar man. We worked and shared a house together for some time.
He was great fun, very intelligent, but would unexpectedly flip sometimes.
Once, out of the blue, he did apologise for a very spectacular explosion.
I hear from him occasionally, on his travels around the globe, but can never make out quite where he is. He has habit, in his 'up' state, to go walkabout. Then when he comes down to earth he realises the mess he's in and calls for rescue to his ever patient brother.
Very difficult to have a relationship with someone with this condition.
